Harvesting timber; removing timber from the forest. In every forest, whatever its function, it is vitally important that timber is properly harvested. Trees are felled in order to maintain a healthy forest stand and to give other trees the chance to flourish. Applying forestry skills and knowledge, and drawing on years of industry experience, Van den Nagel ensures the value of the harvest is maximized. Forests in the Netherlands are relatively small and every timber harvest requires a customized approach. For each assignment Van den Nagel assesses which method is best suited to the forest stand in question and then goes to work effectively and efficiently.
The tree-felling is carried out by a harvester, which cuts and sorts the trunks. A forwarder operator retrieves the felled trunks from the forest plot and stacks them along the passable roads, in readiness for loading onto a truck and transportation to the processing industry.
Most harvesting is now carried out using a mechanised method of some kind. These methods have the advantage of speed. In addition, operators are less dependent on daylight and the weather. Heavy coniferous and deciduous trees will still require hand-held power tools; our employees have years of experience and have taken the necessary courses to be able to carry out this work.
